Taking a road-trip is one of the best way to experience a country’s beauty and diverse geography. However, highways are not just used by travellers but at times by daily commuters too. Plus, there is always an issue of safety and hygiene on the highways. highway delite is solving this problem by providing emergency information on your mobile.

India’s national and state highways span for about 2.35 lakhs km. Take any mode of transport, road travel easily finds its way in your travel itinerary. India is a land of diverse culture, people, geography, and millions of travellers not just from within the country but across world. However, India has poor ranking in Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index. India ranks 106th out of 140 countries in health and hygiene and in crime and violence she ranks 97th out of 140.

These low rankings have been attributed to the following pain points faced by many highway travellers:

  • Not sure of good restaurants which provide quality and hygiene food
  • Not aware of availability of hygienic wash-rooms along the highways
  • Not aware of safe stay options along the highways
  • No point of contact in case of emergency, medical or mechanic requirements

To help solve this problem Rajesh Ghatanatti, started building the mobile app highway delite.

For the love of road

Rajesh Ghatanatti, founder of highway delite has been travelling roads of India since his school. Coming from defence family aided his love for travelling. One challenge that he experienced on the roads was safety and hygiene travel. When he realized that most travellers faced the same problem, he was motivated to solve these challenges faced on the highways.

“I have this belief that all common people have uncommon will to change anything if they are determined.”

Having travelled extensively for business he was convinced of the problems on highways. In February 2015, he started as a single founder and worked on highway delite to address the difficulties faced on highways.

“I had no idea about how to go about it. But I always believed that things will fall in place once I start.”

Making the App live

Since he started highway delite, in May 2015, he has travelled and verified data of about 3500+ km of highways by staying roughly about 70 nights on highways. He made the app live with the help of one technical member, two specially-abled members and couple of college interns.

He knew the target is huge (2.5 lakhs km of national and state highways), and up until now he has just scratched the surface. But the feedback from customer especially women travellers has kept him and his team moving forward.
